A typical BESS EPC Scope to be managed:

1. Early Works

  • Preparation of Management Plans & Obtaining Secondary Approvals: Develop and submit required management plans and obtain necessary secondary approvals.

  • Site & Grid Studies: Perform R0, R1, geotechnical, hydrological, and topographical studies to inform design and construction.

  • Ordering Long Lead Equipment: Procure critical long lead-time items to ensure timely delivery.

  • Limited Critical Engineering/Design Activities: Start essential design tasks.

  • Relocation of Existing Services (if required): Move existing utilities that interfere with new construction.

  • Undertake Due Diligence on GPS Package: Review and confirm GPS package details.

2. Preliminaries and Condition Precedents

  • Insurances: Determine necessary insurance coverage.

  • Bank Guarantees: Obtain bank guarantees as required by the contract.

3. Project Management

  • Onsite Project Management: Coordinate all onsite activities.

  • Offsite Project Management: Manage project tasks remotely, ensuring coordination and communication.

4. Engineering & Design

  • Civil & Structural Design: Develop detailed civil and structural engineering plans.

  • Electrical Design: Design electrical systems for the BESS.

  • SCADA and Communications Design: Plan and design SCADA systems and communication networks.

5. Site Preparation

  • Clearing of Vegetation: Remove vegetation to prepare the site.

  • Mobilization and Demobilization: Set up and later remove temporary facilities.

  • Training and Inductions: Provide necessary training and site inductions for staff.

  • Site Establishment: Establish the site including fencing and site offices.

  • Temporary Compounds Including Services: Set up temporary compounds and necessary services.

6. Major Procurement Items

  • Battery Enclosures: Procure enclosures for the batteries.

  • Inverters: Purchase inverters for the system.

  • Inverter & AUX Transformers: Procure transformers.

  • Control Building: Construct or install the control building.

  • Cables (DC/MV): Purchase and install required cables.

  • LVAC and LVDC Cables, Earthing Conductor & Fibre Optic Cables: Ensure procurement and installation of all necessary cables.

  • Weather Stations and Ancillary Monitoring Equipment: Install weather monitoring equipment.

  • Primary Power Transformer: Procure and install the primary power transformer.

  • O&M Building & Storage: Construct buildings for operations and maintenance.

  • HV Substation Equipment: Procure and install high-voltage substation equipment.

7. Civil Works

  • Stripping Topsoil: Remove topsoil in preparation for construction.

  • Cut and Fill Bulk Earthworks: Perform earthworks to level the site.

  • Benching: Create benches to stabilize slopes.

  • Stormwater, Drainage and Detention Pond: Install stormwater management systems.

  • Final Grade of Roads and Maintenance of Environmental Controls at Completion: Complete Road grading and maintain environmental controls.

8. Structural & Building Works

  • BESS & HV Substation Foundation: Lay foundations for the BESS and substation.

  • HV Substation Steel & Structural Works: Construct steel structures for the substation.

  • O&M, Storage Buildings: Build operations, maintenance, and storage facilities.

9. Fencing, Security & Lighting

  • Security Fencing: Install security fencing around the site.

  • Entrance Gates: Set up secure entrance gates.

  • CCTV System: Install a comprehensive CCTV system.

  • Lighting: Install site lighting for security and operational purposes.

10. Logistics & Waste Management

  • Local Port to Site (includes all port charges, tariffs, charges, fees and duties): Manage logistics from port to site.

  • Off-Site Storage (if used): Arrange off-site storage if necessary.

  • On-Site Logistics (includes destuffing containers, placement to installation location): Manage on-site logistics and materials handling.

  • Removal of all Waste Material from Site: Ensure proper waste management and disposal.

11. Mechanical Installation

  • Battery Enclosure and Inverter Placement: Install battery enclosures and inverters.

  • Inverter Transformer: Install inverter transformers.

  • RMU Placement: Place Ring Main Units.

  • Coolant Liquid Filling: Fill coolant systems.

  • Cold Commissioning: Perform initial commissioning tests.

12. Electrical Installation Works

  • All Trenching, Backfilling, and Restoration: Complete necessary trenching and restoration.

  • Cable Pulling: Pull and install cables.

  • All MV and LV Terminations, All Array Connectors, All Cable Tray, Earthing: Complete all electrical terminations and connections.

  • Substation Construction: Build the substation.

  • Staged Completion of BESS Blocks: Complete BESS installation in stages.

13. SCADA & Internet Connection

  • Supply and Install SCADA System: Implement the SCADA system.

  • Establish Internet Connections: Ensure internet connectivity for monitoring and control.

14. Testing & Commissioning

  • BESS Hot Commissioning: Conduct final commissioning tests of the BESS.

  • HV Substation Hot Commissioning: Test and commission the HV substation.

  • R2 Commissioning: Perform R2 commissioning tests.

  • Hold Point Tests: Carry out hold point tests to ensure compliance.

  • Commercial Operation: Begin commercial operation of the BESS.
